Description/Duties :
|
Separation of human lymphocytes from whole blood of infected and uninfected donor patients. Culture and maintenance of PBMC cultures in a C02 environment in a P-3 laboratory setting. Perform various DNA and RNA PCR-based assays for HIV/HHV. Enter and maintain data files on a lab based PC and or Mac computer system and familiarity with usage of same. Isolation and purification of subpopulations of blood and tissue cells, including cell-sorting and maintenance of various cell populations. Histologic preparation of tissues for in situ hybridization and in situ PCR assays. Provide assistance with the development of an allogenic stem cell transplant protocol for HIV patients. Work on various other projects as deemed necessary by the Project Manager.
Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate field of technology or Science and two years experience as a Research Technologist or equivalent, Or an advanced Degree in an appropriate scientific field. Willingness and ability to work in a P-3 laboratory setting with HIV and various human herpes viruses, including specimens collected from AIDS patients with chronic infectious diseases, for research purposes. General virology and molecular virology background. Sterile technique and extreme attention to detail and accountability. Ability to communicate well with laboratory personnel at all levels.
